Attention! Life-threatening!

Be prepared for the fact that you will have to change something both in the interior and in the way of life that is familiar to you.

Souvenirs. If you are a lover of all sorts of breaking souvenirs, photo frames, glass / crystal vases, etc. objects, you will need to remove them to a place inaccessible to the kitten, or you will have to periodically collect fragments from the floor. Here the choice is yours, or the glass, or the animal in the house. And no matter how obedient and ideal an animal would be, do not forget that it is a living creature that needs to climb, jump, run and play, sometimes sweeping away everything in its path. If the love of materialism overpowers, perhaps you should give up the presence of our smaller brothers in the house, and if not, I am sure you will find the right way out. For example, we had to glue a floor vase to the floor with double-sided tape after it began to attract the attention of kittens, but it still stands. J

Curtains. This means tulle, etc. curtains to the floor. We have this interior detail after the first litter acquired, to put it mildly, not a "marketable" look. J No, Burmese don't climb them, even as kittens. But they love to play at any age. They hide behind them like little children, and when one kitten is on one side of the curtain, and the second one catches it on the other, the curtains quickly fall into disrepair. The way out is to change the floor-length curtains to "Roman" or "roll-up". Although, if you are the owner of only one individual of the feline family, you are not in danger – it is not interesting to play hide-and-seek "in one". J

Thread-like curtains. With the appearance of a kitten in the house, remove them altogether!!! It is not uncommon for kittens to get entangled in them and, at best, twist their joints, at worst (and more often) die from suffocation.

Threads, including torn dental floss, New Year's rain, etc. things also pose a huge danger to the kitten. The danger lies in the fact that the thread may not pass into the stomach, but tighten / tie the stomach or intestines. Therefore, if you see the end of the thread sticking out of the mouth, or the kitten's buttocks, do not pull on it in any case!!! By doing this, you may tighten the knot more and pull the thread together with the stomach or intestines. It would be better if you contact a veterinarian as soon as possible.

Sharp objects, including bones, can cut the esophagus. There was a case when a kitten cut the esophagus from eating raw chicken necks. Raw chicken necks contain a large amount of vitamins, so they are often included in the diet of both kittens and adult animals. But, before giving the kitten necks, they must be crushed in a meat grinder / blender, or well beaten off with a hammer. Fish bones are no less dangerous.

All the small details that a kitten can swallow. If you notice that the kitten is coughing, choking, trying to put his paw in his mouth, or just wheezing is heard - these may be symptoms of a foreign body in the throat. To begin with, you can take the kitten by the legs, lower it head down and shake it by patting it on the back. Or, if the stuck object is small, you can give a teaspoon of vaseline (or vegetable) oil. With the help of salt, you can induce vomiting (1/4 teaspoon per 1 teaspoon of water). But if a sharp object is stuck, vomiting cannot be caused! If you find parts of foreign objects in the chair, first also give a little vegetable oil. And contact the veterinarian immediately.

Windows. There must be a grid on the windows. At least masked, but better - "antikoshka". This is such a thin metal mesh, much thinner than the "Chain Link". You can either attach it yourself, or call a specialist. It is not expensive. You can also limit yourself to masking if the kitten does not show interest in an open window, but there is no guarantee that his interest will not suddenly appear, to a bird, butterfly, or fly sitting on the ledge. The masking net can simply fall out under the weight of the kitten.
Now the windows themselves. The window in the ventilation mode, when the upper part of the letter V is open, cannot be left. There are frequent cases when a kitten jumped into a V-shaped open part and died there from suffocation, or fell out with the net. The way out is to put both maskitnaya and antikoshka grids, and open the window in full mode, or fix the grilles made of any material in the V-shaped part.

Do not open windows without grids at all!!! And it is better to take off the handles so that one of the guests does not accidentally decide to ventilate the room. Remember that a couple of seconds is enough for a kitten to crash!

Doors. In addition to the fact that you can crush a kitten with a door, or pinch its tail, open entrance doors are a huge danger. Burmese are very curious and trusting, so everything unknown to them is very interesting and not at all scary. A story from personal experience. Our third-in-a-row baby girl, Pupa, moved in with us. One day I woke up and she was missing. After a 2-hour search of the apartment, I began to panic. I looked for her everywhere, went to the windows several times - checked the masking nets, called in the entrance, looked in the closets, wherever possible. She was nowhere to be found. After my numerous calls to my husband asking where the cats were when he left for work, my husband still came. When he entered the apartment, the Navel was in his arms. Thank God she was all right. He found her sitting on the stairs near the entrance. Because we live on the 4th floor and there is no grass under the windows, but paving slabs, she would not be able to jump out of the window and remain without injuries. She ran out the door. My husband just didn't notice. We have a stairwell next to the door, and cats, when they run out into the entrance, run up the stairs for some reason, not down. After that, I caught them many times on the top floor, where there is a dead end.

Dangers on the street:

1) Dogs that can bite or tear a cat.
2) Diseases that a cat can get infected with and infect you and your whole family: rabies, borreliosis, leptospirosis, tuberculosis, microsporia /lichen, scab, pasteurellosis, salmonellosis, toxocarosis, toxoplasmosis, trichinosis, chlamydia and others.
3) Cars, especially if there is a roadway nearby.
4) People, children, teenagers who can just make fun of your animal.
5) In the end, a cat can simply be stolen, and since Burmese are very trusting, and go to everyone without fear, it will not be difficult to do this at all.
6) The cold season, when the cat can get overcooled (it can be any time of the year when the air temperature is below 25 C).

Air temperature. Burmese, despite the presence of wool, are very thermophilic. The room temperature should be at least 25 degrees at any time of the year. And if there are newborn kittens, even higher. Any hypothermia from an air conditioner, or from a draft threatens with a disease that is easier to prevent than to cure by spending a lot of money on veterinarians and medications. No walking if the outside temperature is below 25 degrees. If you had to transport an animal in the cold season, be sure to buy clothes for your pet and insulate the carrier!

Electrical appliances. Personally, I'm terrified of the washing machine myself. After hearing how many cats are dying there, I'm insanely afraid to close someone there. Before washing, I carefully feel out all the laundry in the car. And if I can't find someone, and at the same time the washing machine is working, I start to panic, I run to the car and look through the window to see if any of the animals are spinning there. It's also good that a machine with a horizontal load would be with a vertical one, I don't know what I would do). Refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens are dangerous in the same way – an animal can get into them and go unnoticed.

Stove. The gas stove is working, it is dangerous to scorch the vibrissae (whiskers) of the animal. And if the animal catches fire, it is fraught with a fire in the whole house.

Electric stove. A story from personal experience. One day I woke up to the acrid smoke of burnt plastic. Thinking that, probably, the neighbors are burning something on their site again, I went to the window. The neighbors were not to blame… And the thing was this: The day before, I took out a frozen chicken and put it in a deep plastic bowl with a lid so that the chicken would defrost overnight. I left the bowl on the stove. My glass-ceramic stove has always been very sensitive to touch. But for 10 years of using the stove, there was no need to lock the buttons, even with a small child. So, the cats, sensing the smell of chicken, decided to get it. Jumped on the stove, the stove turned on. Then, apparently, the paws got hot, and they jumped off, and the stove turned off, also spontaneously, but it is not known when. I discovered all this when the plastic mass that had spread over the stove had already frozen, i.e. the stove turned off, just as spontaneously as it turned on. That's how my pets fried a chicken for themselves)).

Toilet, bathroom. You will have to train yourself and your family to close the toilet lid. It is clear that drinking water from the toilet is not only not hygienic, but also dangerous to health, but that's not all. There was a case (this time not mine) when a kitten decided to drink water from the toilet, and the lid fell and slammed it shut. It's good that the hostess was at home and heard a crash – the kitten was trying to jump out, slamming the lid. The kitten was overcooled, but remained alive. And here is a case that happened to us. During the renovation, the cats had to be moved to the bathroom. The bathroom is large, they had somewhere to roam. They jumped everywhere, including in the bathtub itself. One regular "beautiful" morning, a neighbor from below calls me, I won't say with what words)). I run to the bathroom, and there's water up to my ankles. Our cats decided to swim this time)). There was a shower at the bottom of the tub, water was pouring out of it, and it was beating.... aside…

Household chemicals. Domestos, etc. chlorine-containing, completely exclude, but if you can not do without them in any way - wash off with plenty of water and be sure to erode the vapors!!! At the same time, isolate the cats. It is better to use chlorine-free products. There is a very good disinfectant for washing everything, called Lina, sold in vet. stores.

Remember, the cat does not have 9 lives at all, but one, which now depends on you!

Well, finally I will add. Against the background of the love and affection that cats give us, the positive emotions that we experience with them, all material and non-material expenses look so small and insignificant that you simply stop paying attention to them. I do not know how to explain it in words).

Sincerely, Julia Perova.
